Every new season of Stranger Things ends with the death of a character that fans have grown to love. They have a knack for introducing lovable characters and killing them off just as mercilessly, leaving thousands of viewers heartbroken. But as it turns out, in the Netflix Official After Show, the Duffer brothers showed up to discuss the characters of Eddie and expressed their unwillingness to let him go and one more character from the previous season.
The Duffers lament the death of Eddie and Bob Newby in Stranger Things
Eddie was gone too early, and the Duffer brothers feel the same. He was first introduced as a cowardly metalhead who was into Dungeons & Dragons. But eventually, he makes the biggest sacrifice to save the others from a painful death in the Upside Down. They praised Joseph Quinn for taking “Eddie to whole another level.” Apparently, the brothers loved Eddie and Joe and what Joe was doing with his character.

Unfortunately, since the script was already written, the Duffer brothers had no choice but to kill him.
Matt regretfully said, “There’s definitely a part of me that wishes he was still around for 5.”
The Duffers expressed that they found themselves in a similar situation in Stranger Things season 2 with Sean Austin’s Bob Newby. The warm-hearted Bob became food to the Demogorgons while trying to save Joyce. The brothers had known about his death, but they kept “pushing” it because they didn’t want to let him go.

During the 80s, a major satanic panic gripped the nation. And kids who played D&D or were into gothic things were accused of worshipping satan. Damien Echols was one of the accused who turned out innocent. So they based Eddie’s character on kids like him. Moreover, the brothers wanted to break the stereotypes surrounding Metalheads. They wanted to show a different side to them as just misunderstood people who like nerdy stuff and fantasy games.
So it wasn’t just us after all that was not ready to say goodbye to these characters!
