‘Stranger Things’ Would Have Been Longer, Had COVID Not Hindered With It, Says Ted Sarandos

Stranger Things season 4 created an uproar on social media when Duffer Brothers finally announced its arrival on Netflix. Because the pandemic halted the shooting for three years and made fans wait for their favorite show. Following the release, fans were deeply persuaded by the remarkable presentation. As the creators succeeded in fulfilling the expectation of this highly anticipated season. Subsequently making this horror drama the most watched series of the year viewed by billions of fans. Seeing the enormous popularity show has brought to Netflix, Ted Sarandos admitted that if not for Covid-19 season 4 would have more episodes. We all are aware of how the pandemic impacted the shooting of Stranger Things and release got delayed. Because the show had different locations in season 4 from Georgia to New Mexico and Lithuania. According to Deadline, Ted said that Covid has impacted the show more financially than any other show on Netflix. Due to the pandemic streamer had additional costs as they had to follow the precautions properly. The Co-CEO remarked:

“If you did that all again and took that off the top you might even get a couple of extra episodes out of it.”

He added that previously Netflix used to spend on average about 5/10% on the content. But the cost has now raised to around $17B which is a big amount to deal with. Although it’s not clear that the show has caused higher spending. While it is evident that the closure has largely affected the biggest English Language show of the streamer. Seeing Season 4 was divided into two parts for the safety of the cast members and the locations they traveled to.

Like, Ted said that the shooting cost them highly because they had to be extremely careful with the cast. By taking extra safety measures so no one could get clasped by the waves of that epidemic situation.

“[Stranger Things] was probably affected as any [by Covid] because of the young cast and the size and scope of the production and the multiple locations that we shot in.” 

Meanwhile, they packed things up in between and started things again after a long pause. Otherwise, there would have been more episodes and they shouldn’t have to cut things short in a hurry. But despite the hurdles creators have faced in creating the show it’s all worth it as we saw fans loved this season.
