Bridgerton star, Simone Ashley, takes us on a trip down memory lane by telling us how filming some scenes from season 2 brought back childhood memories. At The Queen’s Ball: A Bridgerton Experience event held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, Ashley shared her experience shooting for Bridgerton.

In season 2 of the Regency-era show, Kate and Edwina moved to England from India with their mother Mary after the death of their father, in order to get married to her two daughters in an elite family belonging to London. The show includes a Haldi ceremony, a pre-wedding Indian ritual, using pet names like did, bon, appa. And the title soundtrack of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.

Since both the actress have Indian origins, they had a say in how these scenes were set up, according to Ashley and Chandran.

During a conversation with People, Simone Ashley aka Kate Sharma shared that she and her co-star, Charithra Chandran, had an influence on the Indian elements in the scenes. Apparently, the creators were particular about getting things right about the culture and thus, were receptive to the actresses’ opinions.

Simon said, “And I think bringing the holy ceremony to screen was such a joy. I mean, it’s the first time we’ve seen anything like that and I loved filming it with Shelley [Conn] and Charithra. It was nostalgic for me. It brought up a lot of childhood memories of things I did similarly growing up.”

Bridgerton star even shared that the production of ShondaLand is very particular about the representation. She even added, “they are very specific on what they want and always creating discussions.” The Sex Education star also was all praises for her co-star in these scenes, Charithra Chandran, sharing how she learned a lot from her reel sister.

While the Indian cultural representation on Bridgerton season 2 was a mix-up, it certainly is a start for a Regency-era show. We are very sure that we will see more representation in the future seasons because the story of Kate and Anthony has just started. The next season might focus on other Bridgerton siblings. But it will also show the growth of the newly married couple.

Simone Ashley even gave us a hint that she might think the next season will focus on the love story of Nicola and Luke. She was even excited to see how Shonda Rhimes unwinds the story of Colin and Penelope in Bridgerton season 3.
