Ryan Reynolds keeps hopping between action and comedy movie genres. But the actor undoubtedly manages to do both efficiently. While he is successful as a star, the father of four is not afraid to experiment. Despite showcasing the perfect mixture of humor and action in Deadpool, he wanted to lend his voice to his 2019 movie Detective Pikachu.

The actor, who recently welcomed his fourth baby, had a particular reason for working on the project. But the reason goes beyond wanting to play the dangerously cute pokemon.

Reynolds managed to move from being a comical hero to an action hero successfully, but that came with one problem: His movies are mostly R-rated. This meant playing Pikachu an exciting affair to him. The actor himself admitted to that once in 2019. As per Cinemablend, Reynolds said, “I was excited to do a film that my kids would love. I don’t do a lot of films that are not rated R. For me, that’s a big one.” The Rob Letterman movie was obviously a UG-13 movie and a thrill for Pokemon fans of all ages.

This comes as a change for the actor who had so far only worked in R-rated movies. The actor was so excited about the role and he even vanished into the role and didn’t show up at the school to pick up his daughters, as he admitted in a promotional YouTube video he shared before Detective Pikachu’s release in 2019.

The actor even released a special kid version of Deadpool called Once Upon a Deadpool. It was a child-friendly, edited, and sober version of the original movie, with fewer bloody scenes and explicit dialogues.

Detective Pikachu revolved around a character named Tim Goodman who goes to a city wherein the pokemon and humans live together in harmony. That is when he comes across Pikachu and an incident leads them to a crime-solving, action-filled journey together. The movie also starred Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Bill Nighy in the lead.

Now, while the flick received average reviews, it became an instant hit amongst fans. Considering that, it is likely that Ryan Reynolds will make more such movies with his family expanding now.
