The most dysfunctional superhero family makes a return to the screen after two years. The Umbrella Academy season 3 is set to premiere on Jan 22. Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s comic books, it focuses on a group of siblings with superpowers struggling to mend the relationship with each other while also saving the world. The series was so wonderfully wacky, that it became an instant hit on its premiere back in 2019. Season 2 was equally a blast. A recap of season 2

The finale saw the Hargreeves emerging victorious against The Commission, Lila, and The Handler. After averting the catastrophe, they time travel back to 2019 only to find everything is different in this timeline – The Sparrow Academy has replaced The Umbrella Academy and Sir Reginald Hargreeves is alive. Additionally, it’s also revealed that Sir Reginald was part of a shadow group Majestic 12 and he isn’t human. The siblings are also shocked to see their beloved brother Ben alive in flesh and bones with new powers. 

In the explosive finale, one of The Swedes murdered The Handler to avenge her brother. But is she really dead? Timid Herb now leads The Commission. Lila, The Handler’s daughter came to know The Handler killed her mother and she was one of the 43 special children born in 1989.

And lastly, Viktor saves Harlan and then tearfully leaves Harlan and Sissy in the past when he time travels to 2019. But Harlan is shown demonstrating some newfound powers.

Much like the actor in real life, Vanya will go through a transformation in the series to become Viktor Hargreeves. The siblings will have a clash with The Sparrow Academy to win over their father. Talking about their father, this season might reveal his true identity and agenda behind nurturing superhero kids. Harlan may appear as a grown-up adult with powers like Viktor’s. And we might finally get to know about Lila’s whereabouts.

The series premieres on June 22.
