Netflix is really spreading its domain to uncharted territories. The streaming website not only produces fiction or documentaries but also has entered the arena of live-action adaptations. Netflix already has several live-action adaptations in development. But the one the whole world, us including, are interested in is the Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation.

The announcement of the adaptation was first made in 2018. It’s been four long years since, and we finally have updates that will put a big smile on the fans.

Avatar: The Last Airbender new updates

From 2005 until 2008, Nickelodeon was streaming the original Avatar: The Last Airbender for a total of 61 episodes. The series was well-received by critics and has a devoted following to this day. The original series was such a huge success that it received a sequel series called The Legend of Korra. The sequel aired for 52 episodes across four seasons from 2012 to 2014.

Well, after such a huge success, how could Netflix not be a part of it? So when they announced a live-action series, fans were a little skeptical after the huge blunder of 2010’s film. But a new update by actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee has brought a ray of hope for the fans.

In a new interview, the Canadian actor who will play Uncle Iroh, the one full of wisdom and tea in the adaptation. He confirmed that the series will have eight episodes and a runtime of an hour each. This debunks an older theory of show having ten episodes.

What is amazing is that with eight episodes and hour-long episodes, the first season of the show will have a runtime of 480 minutes. This is the same as that of the original animated series.

Other updates for the live-action adaptation

Many of the live-action cast has already been announced including Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko among others.

The adaptation has been creating a lot of rumors and news in the past. Fans have been a little scared of the new adaptations’ content quality after the original series creator Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko left Netflix due to creative differences.

It is good news to hear that at least the new season will not repeat the films’ fault of not giving the storyline enough time. But without the original creators, it might be difficult to recreate the original magic of the original series.
