She states her reason, “Jonathan…because he’s kind, and he might just need a little bit more time to grow into himself, as a man.” In the series, Jonathan is portrayed as Nancy’s boyfriend with Steve being the ex-boyfriend. Wheeler and Byers are shown to have feelings for each other in season 1, though the former was still dating Steve then.
