Jada Pinkett Smith sat down with The Guardian to promote her upcoming Netflix docuseries African Queens: Njinga. During the conversation, she talked about tackling alopecia which became a part of the global scandal last year.

“I learned a lot about detachment. And I learned a deeper beauty within myself, being able to let my hair go,” explained the 51-year-old during The Guardian interview. The actress who is always outspoken about her condition stated she has learned a lot from this journey.

Moreover, she added that the diagnosis has taught her some scary and important lessons about beauty. According to her, Black women often associate their beauty with hair and after losing it she struggled. But she did discover her beauty by stepping out of the aesthetics created around hair only.

While her self-love flourishes, so does her career, as Pinkett-Smith’s upcoming Netflix project that touches upon an interesting topic is set to release this week.
