Jonathan’s Best Scene in ‘Stranger Things’ 4 Was an Unscripted Moment
Stranger Things season 4 went a lot darker this season than the previous ones. We see the dynamics shift between the gang, and it was hard to see the Byers and Eleven struggling to adjust in California. Every one of them was struggling in one way or another, but Will was the only one silently suffering for years.
Season 4 delved deeper into Will’s story, away from his connection to the Upside Down, focusing more on his identity. And we see Jonathan reaching out to Will once again. He had been missing from much of season 4, but one touching scene in the series sealed the deal for Jonathan. However, in a recent interview, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, revealed that this tender moment was not even in the original script.

Jonathan and Will’s moment that pulled everyone’s heartstrings was entirely unscripted
Mike, Jonathan, Argyle, and Jonathan are on the road to find and rescue Eleven. Will tries to console a distressed Mike. But while consoling him, he reveals his own feelings to him unbeknownst to Mike. He stops himself from crying while staring out of the window, but his brother, Jonathan, witnesses this vulnerable moment. Later, when the brothers have some alone time, Jonathan apologizes to him for not giving him his attention. Jonathan was so tied up in his world and weed that he forgot to be there for Will. But he promises him that he isn’t going there and is always there for him. In codeword, he conveys to Will that he sees and accepts him as he is.
Needless to say, this scene had many of us grabbing our tissue boxes. However, the scene wasn’t even planned! In a recent interview with Variety, Noah Schnapp disclosed that this follow-up scene between the two brothers wasn’t part of the original script. After they wrapped up the van scene, the Duffer brothers thought it was necessary to have this scene to comfort Will and others like him that they aren’t alone.
