Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin expressed his experience facing racism. The Netflix Original series is one of the most popular and successful ones on the platform. As a virtue of its success, even the young cast received a lot of appreciation. In fact, it opened a door of opportunities for talented actors, including Sadie Sink, Millie Bobby Brown, and Noah Schnapp.

This also includes Caleb McLaughlin, who plays the main character Lucas Sinclair in the 1980s-based series. Lucas was only fourteen when he first began his journey in Stranger Things. He is shown to be the only son of a loving couple named Sue and Charles Sinclair, and is best friends with Mike, Will, and Max. Unfortunately, despite his important role, actor Caleb received negative treatment, and he pointed out the reason for it as racism.

Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas Sinclair in the retro-based supernatural series, explains his struggle with being mistreated due to skin color. As per sources, during Comic-Con in Belgium, Caleb talks on the topic by revealing his first time at a comic con for Stranger Things when he was much younger. Some fans told him they did not want to be in line because of how his character treated Eleven. Lucas is shown to be a bit vary of Eleven, in the beginning, because of her unusual powers. But he warms up to her as the characters mature through progressing seasons.

Lucas’s younger self would wonder about the separate treatments he got as compared to his co-stars. Only the adult him could understand the dark reasons behind it. The Concrete Cowboy actor had to be sat down by his parents as they explained, “It’s a sad truth, but it’s because you’re the Black child on the show.” But the optimistic actor wants to use social media, not for hate, but to spread positivity.

This is not the first instance where a black actor had to face racism. Others like Halle Bailey (Little Mermaid), Steve Toussaint (House of Dragon), and Moses Ingram (Star Wars) have always had to face similar situations. How do you think these issues can be tackled?
