Rick and Morty co-creator Roiland recalls the show’s initial hardships

Being a victim of poor timing, the show wasn’t as appealing to the public as it is now. It is already difficult for a show to maintain itself upto to the sixth installment with a fanbase so large. Executives saw sci-fi and were like, eh, that’s a dirty word,” shared Roiland.

That for sure was the climate at that time. However, after much struggle with increasing the reach, they finally managed to make it a hit. Roiland decided to “make the show,” and here they are with the largest fan base ever for any sci-fi animated series. Nevertheless, it doesn’t come as a surprise knowing that the show creators had a tough time with it.
