Maintaining a work-life balance is and always has been a tightrope walk. This ordeal is often trickier for a woman with a family; more so back in the 90s. One has to make a firm choice and set their priorities straight. This rang true even for the power couple, Will Smith and his partner Jada Pinkett Smith.

Will Smith was an established name on the marquee in the 90s with projects like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bad Boys, Men in Black, and Independence Day under his belt. Marrying the love of his life, Jada, and with his career only elevating by the day, he was on top of his game. The tougher choice, however, was for Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada Pinkett Smith revealed how Will Smith altered her professional dreams

Back in 1998, shortly after the birth of their son Jaden, Will and his wife Jada gave a candid interview to RollingStone. Reminiscing about her past professional aspirations, Jada Pinkett Smith shared how family life can have a huge impact on your goals.

“When I came to Hollywood, I planned on being the biggest star,” revealed the Scream 2 star.

Things, however, changed when she got together with the Men in Black actor. “I’m going to have to compromise, because he’s not going to. That’s not even a discussion,” said Jada, plainly laying out the facts. For Pinkett Smith, Will was the clear choice in the battle between her career and someone who loves her and “will provide a happy family.”

For her, family comes first. Although, that certainly doesn’t mean she can’t have a career. By her own admission, her “work gets forty percent,” with her home taking the majority of her focus. “I just won’t have the one (career) I had planned on,” said the Red Table Talk host.
