How Different Is Mila Kunis’ New Netflix Movie ‘Luckiest Girl Alive’ From the Book?
Mila Kunis is set to make her comeback in a mystery thriller movie which will also mark her Netflix debut! She is returning to the screen again after what feels like ages. She had signed on to star in Jessica Knoll’s best-selling debut novel, Luckiest Girl Alive in 2021 and after nearly a year, the streamer has unveiled the trailer for the movie.
Netflix is no stranger to adapting novels. It recently found tremendous success with Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. But much like Gaiman, Knoll also had to face some grueling years to see her book come to life. Now that it’s here, let’s find out whether the makers have chosen to stay faithful to the source or not.

Is the Netflix movie Luckiest Girl Alive starring Mila Kunis staying true to the source?
Luckiest Girl Alive follows Ani FaNelli who seems to have a perfect life until her dark past threatens to spill over and ruin her present. Knoll’s mystery thriller novel was a sensation when it was released in 2015. And from the trailer, it doesn’t look like they have diverted from the plot at all.
From the latest trailer, we are introduced to Kunis’s Ani who is living her dream life. She is a sharp-tongued New York magazine writer, who has the best wardrobe, and has her Nantucket wedding planned until a true crime documentary forces her to confront her harrowing past. It is hinted that she was involved in a school shooting. But it gets darker than that when a former classmate makes allegations about her. In a flashback, we see her getting harassed and seeking help from a teacher.
