It has been a time and a half since the season 2 finale of The Witcher. Since production started in March 2022, fans have been waiting for some news pointing towards a release date. We are so glad that the filming for The Witcher season 3 is finally at an end. And what better way to find out than a heartfelt message from Geralt of Rivia, Henry Cavill himself?

The filming process for The Witcher season 3 involved a heady mix of studio and on-site locations. From an icy lake, Lagi di Fusine, in north Italy to Predjama castle in Slovenia, it also included the sandy beaches of Croatia and the diametrically opposite Morocco and the Sahara desert, not to mention London and Wales. After five months of this, the cast and crew would have been exhausted. No wonder Henry Cavill wishes nothing but rest for the team.

Henry Cavill expresses his gratitude towards The Witcher’s cast and crew

Looking at the locations, the shooting for it would have been as challenging as they were long, especially the month-long ambitious Thanedd sequence. Plus, the already lengthy schedule had been further delayed since Cavill was down with Covid. But, all’s well that ends well. After 120 work days, it is a wrap on the filming and the start of post-production.

To commemorate the moment, Henry Cavill expressed his feelings about the season along with a warm message for the cast and crew. In a signed note with The Witcher sigil, he thanked the entire team for their “determination and dedication through a tough shoot.” Cavill also wished for “well-deserved rest” for everyone.

For massive shows like The Witcher, post-production takes anywhere between 6 to 8 months. If the previous seasons are anything to go by, Netflix rarely releases the season immediately after it’s ready. So, by giving it a generous eight months, plus some buffer, the show might grace our screens by May 2023. That being said, many still believe that it might release by December 2022.
