Netflix’s The Witcher is aggrieved and wounded at the moment. As Season 3 of the show drew to a close, it forever changed the outlook of the hit fantasy series. Once beloved and the crown jewel of Netflix, the show is now in tumultuous waters. Ever since the news broke of lead Henry Cavill exiting The Witcher after its third season, it has all been downhill for the show. While a few from the show’s current production team blamed Cavill for high-handedness leading to his exit, its Season 1 director tells a different story altogether.

Marc Jobst, who formerly has directed The Witcher, Daredevil, Punisher, and now, One Piece, for Netflix shares his experience of working with Henry Cavill.

Director Marc Jobst, who shot the seventh and eighth episodes of season one of The Witcher, has nothing but praises and accolades for Henry Cavill. The director highlighted the sheer level of commitment, dedication, and energy the 40-year-old actor had while shooting intense action scenes. In an interview with Screenrant, Jobst highlighted that many of the stunt work on the show were very “demanding” in nature. However, Cavill insisted on performing all the stunts by himself, no matter how draining it was. “Henry does every single beat of his stunts, he won’t even allow a hand,” added Jobst.

Speaking on the demeanor and respect towards work that Cavill had, Jobst again lauded the actor and admitted that he was the best on set. Rather, Cavill was so passionate about his acting that it would often motivate others on the set to do more and better. Furthermore, the director added that the actor had “that desire to get it right.” It goes on to highlight that the commitment shown by Cavill was unparalleled and always in the show’s interest. It also stands to reason as to why Cavill would go overboard and ask the showrunner for script changes.

Contrary to what the show’s executives have highlighted and defended with their take on Henry Cavill exiting The Witcher, Marc Jobst feels that Cavill made the right decision. The director stood behind the actor and affirmed his trust in him. “If he feels like he’s done what he can, I trust him,” said Jobst. Notably, there have been various speculations about what made Cavill exit the show.

However, the primary suspect is James Gunn’s DC reboot. At one end Dwayne Johnson brought back Cavill as Superman in a post-credits scene of Black Adam, nearly confirming his return. At the other end, the movie’s failure and James Gunn’s subsequent takeover and reboot of DC were another story. Gunn finally snubbed Cavill out of the DC Universe as he cast David Corenswet as the next Superman in his Superman: Legacy. Nonetheless, all hope is not last as Cavill may still make his way back into DC thanks to the multiverse concept.
