Celebrities are not immune to relationship problems. Will Smith knows it better than anyone. He may be one of the biggest actors in the world, but before everything, he is a husband, a father, and a family man. As a family, the Smiths have been quite public about their personal issues since the beginning.

Will Smith has done movie projects with his wife Jada, daughter Willow, and son Jaden, thereby making them a family unit full of actors and entertainers. But being a famous star doesn’t guarantee every movie’s success. Jaden learned it the hard way when criticized for a movie’s failure. Smith once opened up about it in an interview.

Will Smith’s son once wanted to get emancipated. In an interview with The Project, early this year, the actor candidly spoke about the aftereffects of After Earth’s failure. On that topic, the host acknowledged how Jaden had gone through the worst public mauling as a result of the film’s failure, and asked whether it was just a phase for the youngster or if the King Richard actor felt like he failed as a father. To which, the actor calmly replied by sharing how according to him, Jaden “was going through something totally different.”

Smith referred to his book Will which dived deep into his relationships with the family, including the rough patch between the father and his son following their flop film. The Pursuit of Happyness actor admitted that there is nothing more painful than hurting your own kids. A young Jaden Smith felt betrayed by his father, who guided him through the film.

Consequently, he wanted to be emancipated. The term means ending the control of a parent or guardian on their underaged kid. However, he did not go through that process and remains close to his father till this day.

The two had previously worked in Pursuit of Happyness together, which was one of the best film of both of their careers, while After Earth got really low reviews and brought them under fire.
