Previously, it was unclear whether the film was a continuation of the cancelled series Wu Assassins, but we can now confirm that the film picks up right where the series left off. Although some threads remained unresolved, the main plot of the show, which divided San Francisco chef Kai (Iko Uwais) and his friends against the elemental Wu Lords, ended.
The film begins in Bangkok, Thailand, with Kai, former stolen-car dealer Lu Xin (Tan), and former triad member Tommy (Lawrence Kao) on a new mission for vengeance. Roel Reiné fully commits to the role of creating a film that works both as a series finale and as a stand-alone film for people who are unfamiliar with the series.
