Netflix has again stirred up controversy with its next big release Blonde. The movie is based on the life of the yesteryear Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe. It traces the life of the tragic star as she becomes Hollywood’s biggest sex symbol and her many linkups with famous men.

Monroe died under mysterious circumstances in 1962 and it still remains a hot topic of discussion to this day. The Andrew Dominik movie isn’t the first attempt to get a closer look at the diva, but it certainly is the first to be mired in so many controversies before its release.

Isn’t Blonde on Netflix a biopic of Marilyn Monroe?

The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Joyce Carol Oates of the same name. It is a fictional biography of the celebrity and is in no way an accurate account of the star’s life. The Pulitzer-winning book is actually a reimagination of Monroe’s life. Fans of the star are raising their concern about Blonde on Netflix arguing the point that it’s fan fiction. Some are even refusing to watch it calling it trauma p*rn. They insist that sexualizing Monroe after all these years is still an issue.

Previously, director Andrew Dominik had found himself in hot waters when he refused to compromise on the film’s graphic content. Concerns were raised against a particular sexual assault in the scene. Eventually, the film earned an NC-17 rating, making it the first such rated film heading straight to a streaming platform.
