Dream vs Lucifer: The Drastic Height Difference in ‘The Sandman’; How Tall Is Gwendoline Christie?
Over three decades since The Sandman graphic novels and only now do we have a live-action adaptation for the same. But hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And looking at the absolutely wonderful rendition by the creators of Netflix’s The Sandman, it was definitely worth the wait. Neil Gaiman’s tale, rooted in fantastical mythology, gave us the most fascinating characters. It was an absolute delight to see them come alive on the screen with impeccable performances by the actors who embodied them. From Tom Sturridge’s Morpheus to Boyd Holbrook’s Corinthian, every star shone brightly. But one actor who truly stood out was Gwendoline Christie. Granted m Christie’s height might be a factor, but the British actress, true to her portrayal of the devil Lucifer, towered above the rest of the cast.
The Oldest Game: Battle of the height difference
With intel that a demon now possesses his stolen helm, Morpheus, Dream of The Endless finds his way into purgatory. While on his way to meet “the most beautiful, wisest, and most powerful of all angels,” an uneasy thought overcomes the king of dreams. He fears facing off against Lucifer Morningstar, the devil themselves, while he is at his weakest, without his “symbols of office“: his helm and his ruby. His worst fear comes true when the demon (who has his helm) chooses the fallen angel as his champion against the Dream of The Endless.

And then begins “The Oldest Game”, an epic battle of the mind between the two immortals. While Dream finally emerges victorious, the combat was a nail-biter, as close a call as it could be. To be brutally honest, Morpheus should thank his stars that it was an altercation of the mind. For there is no way in hell (pun intended) that he could defeat the ever-so-looming Lucifer Morningstar in a physical contest. The Devil had over 5 inches alone on the guy. Yes, we are talking about the stark difference in height between Christie and Sturridge.

The British actress, fondly remembered as Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones, has made her mark in yet another fantasy series. Portraying the devil himself, Gwendoline Christie is remarkable and incredibly powerful as the ruler of hell. On a side note, according to Pop Sugar, Christie is 6 feet 3 inches tall. That is about 11 inches taller than 5 feet 4 inches, the world average for women.
Gwendoline is one of the tallest people on the set of The Sandman. Even the cruel carnivore Corinthian played by Boyd Holbrook is an inch shorter at 6 feet 2 inches. In fact, Tom Sturridge, Dream of the Endless, The Sandman himself only stands at 5 feet 10 inches. The height difference between the two is very clear in the battle scene from episode 4 titled A Hope in Hell.

We wouldn’t want to find ourselves in combat with the towering Devil of The Sandman. Gwendoline Christie’s height alone is enough to send one running for their life. Add to that her amazing screen presence and talent; even Dream from The Endless wouldn’t be able to save us. Do you agree with us?
