Does Liam Hemsworth Have What It Takes to Play Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia in ‘The Witcher’?
The Geralt of Rivia is going to go through a total makeover in season 4. The recasting of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, a character that Henry Cavill essayed beautifully, has fans divided. Understandably, so. The Netflix series, The Witcher, was greatly hyped when it dropped for the first time in 2019. Firstly, because the popular gaming series was coming to television and secondly because Henry Cavill was leading the series.
It was Henry’s return to television after making fans swoon in The Tudors. Ever since then, it became a flagship high fantasy series for the streamer. But the digital streaming platform is notorious for canceling fan-favorite shows. So when Henry decided to return as Superman and step down as Geralt, Netflix’s decision to recast Liam Hemsworth baffled the fans. Is the streamer making a mistake or should we trust the creators?

Henry Cavill passing the torch to Liam Hemsworth might be a good thing
Henry Cavill has essayed the role of Geralt of Rivia across three seasons before retiring from the role. Although this is quite a blow to the fans of the series, casting Liam Hemsworth as Geralt may actually work. For one, Hissrich had expressed her intention to make it a seven-season series and the recasting decision ensures that the story is fully fledged out and gets a proper ending.
Moreover, fantasy series offers more flexibility in terms of recasting. Since Geralt has already fought too many witches, demons and monsters the creators can quite easily create a narrative that leads to a total facial change for the character. Thus introducing Liam in the role without any hiccups.

Despite the six years age gap, The Witcher’s makeup artists can perfectly make Liam look a certain age if the show requires it. VFX can further lend a hand to it. Additionally, aging is not a big issue here since Jaskier hasn’t aged at all in spite of the time jump.
Furthermore, the younger Hemsworth brother has some pretty good acting skills that he displayed in The Hunger Games and The Last Song.
