Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family, there have been various reports about King Charles making efforts to bridge the gap. Sources suggested that the senior members, including the monarch, Queen Consort Camilla, Kate Middleton, and Prince William, wanted the Sussexes back. The couple was also given an invitation by the king to visit Sandringham on Christmas for a family reunion last year.

However, Prince Harry has denied all the claims. In the trailer of his upcoming ITV interview, the Duke can be heard saying that he wants his father and brother back. But as per the prince, the royal family has shown “no willingness to reconcile.” He also mentioned that the institution wants to project him and his wife as villains. Therefore, there has been constant leaking and plotting of the stories in the press. However, a royal source has different recollections of the relationship between King Charles and his younger son post the latter’s exit.

Sources reflect on Prince Charles’ conversations with Prince Harry

Following the claims by Prince Harry, a royal source revealed that King Charles invited the Sussex family to stay with him. The monarch wanted them to visit his Highgrove home in Gloucestershire last year. He also offered his son to spend holidays in Scotland just days before Queen Elizabeth II’s death. The insider further mentioned that despite the Duke and Duchess’ explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, they had enjoyable video calls with the former’s father. Recalling all the efforts by the new monarch, the source blasted the prince for speaking “complete and unadulterated nonsense.”

“It takes some audacity to say that when his father invited him to stay at his house when in the UK, invited him to spend Christmas with the rest of the family and continued to make public statements of support,” the Palace insider said as quoted by Mirror. 

Another royal source also echoed the same sentiments. They mentioned how King Charles feels sad about not knowing much about his California-based grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. The monarch wants to be with his son and grandchildren and has thus left the door open for them.
