Prince Harry feared getting dumped by Meghan Markle
During the initial phase of their relationship, Harry was a lot protective of Meghan Markle. Thus, to protest her from the hordes of journalists, the Duke of Sussex decided to not announce his relationship publicly. The same did not go well with the former American star, and she dished out an ultimatum for her boyfriend to make their relationship official.
“Meghan was saying, “If you don’t put out a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you.”” Valentine has mentioned this in his book as quoted by The Times.
The warning by Meghan unsettled the Prince, and he freaked out, stating, “She’s going to dump me.” What followed after that was the Duke royal calling Jason Knauf, communication secretary of Kensington Palace.
Panicked by the entire scenario, Harry demanded an official statement from the Palace to confirm his relationship with Meghan. He further told Knauf to condemn the media reports that were doing racist and sexist reporting on his girlfriend.
Notably, the book mentions that the Palace not taking any action against all the dirt the media smeared on her character and life upset Meghan. Valentine added that Markle told one of the staff that she knew that the House of Windsor does not care about girlfriends. ‘
Interestingly, in November 2016, Prince Harry did make his relationship official. In a public statement, he also condemned the wave of abuse and harassment directed toward Meghan. Do you like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as a couple? Share your thoughts in the comments.
