While the show’s appearance on iTunes and Rakuten TV’s top ten charts is relatively new, the animated series has continued to dominate Netflix charts for some time now. 

The sequel to Despicable Me 2 made its way back to a streamer on the first of August, and ever since it continues to dominate the charts. Despite being released nearly ten years ago, the film series has seen a resurgence in its popularity in recent times. Reports by Screen Rant suggest that the show is among the most-watched shows on streamers for ten non-consecutive weeks.

In addition to that, it is the second most watched show on Netflix US and is more popular than the first film, Despicable Me. In its first two weeks on Netflix, Despicable Me 2 has garnered nearly 5 million views. Apart from being an incredibly popular film series, Despicable Me also helped its studio in a great way.

How the film series helped Illumination Studio? 

Despicable Me is undoubtedly one of the most popular animated film series. Apart from featuring massive stars like Steve Carell, Jason Segel, and Russell Brand, the unique character designs immensely helped in the show’s popularity. Interestingly, Illumination Entertainment, the animation studio behind the series, became incredibly successful as well.

As surprising as it sounds, Illumination Entertainment was also a major animation studio behind the production of the super hit film Super Mario Bros. The minions from Despicable Me have also become huge pop culture icons in today’s time.
