David Harbour Always Knew ‘Stranger Things’ Would Make History, but His Idea for History Was Rather Sad for the Show
David Harbour made his return to Hawkins, in the fourth installment of the show after he was presumed dead last season. Portraying Jim Hopper, the sheriff in the town, he had a heartwarming reunion with his adopted daughter, Eleven. Not only that but our Jopper also got their own moment! However, you’d be surprised to know that David was apprehensive about the success of Stranger Things during its initial years!
David thought Stranger Things would become Netflix’s biggest failure
Back when they were filming the first season in Atlanta, David was having second thoughts about the show’s success. He was certain that they wouldn’t make it past the first season.

“I remember when we were shooting the first season. We were down in Atlanta, and Netflix had given us a budget of about $20. Halfway through I remember my hair person coming up to me, like about episode four we were shooting, and she was like, ‘I don’t think it’s gonna work.
By the time we finished, we wrapped, I thought we wouldn’t get a second season, we’d be the first Netflix show kind of ever to never get a second season. We thought no one would watch it, it was going to be a disaster,” he said.
But he worried for nothing because it became the streamer’s biggest English language TV series. It acquired a viewership of 188.19 million views. Right before the premiere of Volume 2, Netflix’s servers crashed! It also helped in slowing down the subscribers’ loss rate!

The writers will start working on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things in August. According to David’s calculations, they will start filming in 2023 and the penultimate season will arrive by 2024. That’s a long way off, but the Duffer brothers already have plans for a spin-off and a stage play! They will start working on the spin-off after the fifth season.
