Could the Remake of Iconic ‘80S Classic, Footloose on Netflix Do Justice to Kevin Bacon?

Earlier this year, The Umbrella Academy had a fun throwback to the Kevin Beacon starrer Footloose. And now Netflix has added the remake of 1984 Footloose to its catalog to the joy of the fans. The 1984 film Footloose is a classic, but not many are aware that there was a reboot attempted in 2011. The Craig Brewer-directed remake again took us back to a small town where dancing was banned. It’s pretty entertaining to watch a bunch of teenagers struggle for their right to sway some hips.
What’s the remake about?
Just like the original, the story follows Ren McCormack, a city lad that has just moved to a small town, Bomont. Adjusting to a small town is already hard, but it’s worse when he learnsthat the town has a ban on rock music and dancing.

Due to a tragic incident that took place in the town some three years ago before his arrival, the city criminalized these activities. However, Ren and his spirited girlfriend, Ariel Moore try to shape a teenage rebellion to overthrow the city council’s decision and take back their rights to sing and dance.
Meet the cast of Footloose on Netflix
Before Miles Teller was flying planes in Top Gun, he was a Bemont teenager getting on the nerves of Kenny Wormald’s Ren. Interestingly, Kenny wasn’t the first choice for the lead. It was given to Zac Efron but he refused because he didn’t want to get typecast. The actor had just completed Disney’s High School Musical. Julianne Hough stars as Ren’s love interest, the beautiful, Ariel. Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell also star in the film.

Dean Pitchford wrote the script and Craig Brewer wrote the screenplay.
What are the fans’ saying?
Fans are overjoyed to find their old classics streaming on the platform. While some are making plans to stream the film, others are already re-watching it.

Netflix releasing Footloose after the overturning of Roe v Wade, which literally blurs church and state, is a real smooth move lol
