Bridgerton Season 2 vs The Viscount Who Loved Me: All the Major Differences Between the Book and the Show
Fans of the Bridgerton book series are more excited than ever. With the release of Bridgerton season 2 at hand, the one question that keeps baffling viewers is: what are the differences between the show and the book?
From the release of the trailer and teasers, this is all we could make out:
The timeline of Bridgerton season 2

One of the most essential aspects that could potentially change a lot of things is the timeline of events. The Viscount Who Loved Me is set two years after the events of The Duke and I. Daphne is pregnant in the second book, assumingly with her first child. In the trailer, she appears with a baby in her hands, possibly indicating an entirely different timeline.
Edwina’s interest in Anthony
Anthony is a known womanizer in both the books and the Netflix series. While we see Edwina’s apparent interest in him in the trailer, that isn’t quite the case in the books. The Edwina we see in The Viscount Who Loved Me is very much into scholarly men with who she can have erudite conversations. Having seen Anthony in the last season, we know all too well how poles apart he is from this description.
Newton, the corgi
Book lovers sure were disappointed when the trailer shows how Newton immediately barks at Anthony out of disdain. The book features Newton instantly being taken by Anthony.
The inclusivity in season 2 of Bridgerton
Kate Sheffield and Edwina Sheffield from The Viscount Who Loved Me are Kate Sharma and Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton season 2. The inclusivity in the series is quite remarkable, especially for a period drama.
Lady Danbury and the relation with the Sheffields (Sharmas)
The trailer of the Netflix Original shows Lady Danbury presenting the Sharmas to the Queen. The books show no such connection and Lady Danbury is only mentioned fleetingly in a chapter.
The most crucial difference between Bridgerton season 2 and The Viscount Who Loved Me:
The dynamic between Kate and Anthony

Perhaps the most significant change from the books to the show is the dynamic between Kate and Anthony. In the book, Kate is unaware of Anthony’s intentions until the very end. She has no idea that he doesn’t intend to marry for love and is only doing it out of duty. Hence, she has no reason to show contempt for him apart from their strikingly similar yet clashing personalities and his reputation as a Rake.
In the trailer, we see her mentioning to Edwina how the man “seeks a wife only to fulfill his duty and does not believe in the true love (she) deserve(s).” While this seems like a minute detail for those who haven’t read the books, it changes the entire dynamic of the relationship between the two.
