Before Pairing Him With David Harbour From ‘Stranger Things’, Netflix Put Anthony Mackie in a Strange World for a Sci-Fi Thriller
While Tinseltown is brimming with people good or sub-par at certain things, there are only a few who manage to truly leave a lasting impact on the audience through their work. And Anthony Mackie is among them. Cherished by fans and filmmakers alike, Mackie has often found Netflix churning out the best of his chameleon abilities by debuting him in different genres. While his horror comedy with Stranger Things star, We Have a Ghost was all fun and games; the streamer had used him before for guns and pains.
Anthony Mackie and Netflix did way before what Tom Cruise is now trying to do with his Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One.

There is a reason why the streamer does not flinch before putting $200 Million into a movie like Red Notice. It is because a massive budget and a star-studded cast can help it produce a movie that rivals those releasing at the box office. That is not the case with science fiction movies that audiences prefer to watch on big screens. However, back in 2021, the streamer landed its hand on Rob Yescombe’s exciting sci-fi tale, Outside The Wire. And using the star power and acting prowess of Anthony Mackie, it was all set.
Pitched as just what it was, a horrifying masterpiece of a probable future, the movie irked its audience to contemplate the technical advancements in the world. But instead of making Anthony Mackie the knight in shining armor that fights off the evil machinery, Outside The Wire made him an advanced military android.
Through its star-studded cast and top-notch production, it is clear that Netflix was hoping to leave an irremovable mark. But did it really have what it takes to rob science fiction from the big screens?

The OTT Mogul is not just a safe haven for its viewers but also for numerous projects that failed to get due appreciation at the box office but it could not become one for its own. Outside The Wire, although made with a grand intent, failed to create a buzz among the audience. Neither its futuristic plot nor the convincing performance of Anthony Mackie could save it.
Some cited the long run time of the movie while others cited the predictable plot as they gave Netflix’s attempt at science fiction a thumbs down. While this debacle dates back to 2021, fans wonder if the streamer will make it in sci-fi this time as Zack Snyder gears up to bring his highly anticipated science-fiction delicacy, Rebel Moon, on Netflix amidst a cry for a theatrical release.
