After Simone Ashley, Yet Another ‘Sex Education’ Star Joins a Successful Franchise as the Star Face

Simone Ashley got a real career boost when she was cast as the lead in the period drama, Bridgerton. While some ponder upon the familiarity of her face, most know she was seen in the teen-drama Sex Education. Sex Education shot up in popularity because of a number of things like huge production value, perfect acting, LGBT+ views, fresh story telling, British accents, etc.

Given the popularity and acting prowess of the cast members, it’s not a surprise that they are getting new project offers. For instance, Simone Ashley recently confirmed her return to Bridgerton season 3, and consequently, announced her exit from the Asa Butterfield starrer. Similarly, yet another Sex Education actor is entering a popular franchise outside the Netflix series.

So, who is this Sex Education star?

He is very flamboyant with his dressing. Despite being a supporting actor, he is low-key the star of the show, and encourages LGBTQ+ narratives. He also won a BAFTA for his performance. Any guesses? Yes, it’s Ncuti Gatwa! Ncuti aka Eric is cast on the sci-fi thriller Doctor Who! The announcement from the official Doctor Who page on Twitter has set a storm on the internet. Everybody is awaiting the show just to see Ncuti on the show.

Ncuti is cast as the new doctor and is set to take charge of the spaceship TARDIS. His role wasn’t just critically acclaimed, it was popular among anybody who watched the show. He is the 14th doctor on the show after 13 legendary actors, who played the doctors before him.

Ncuti feels honored, excited, and scared

Indeed Doctor Who is a popular franchise with a wide fanbase. To get the chance to ba doctor on the show is likely a happy news for the actor. So how does Ncuti feel? “A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared,” replied the 29-year old actor during the DoctorWhoTV interview.  He also expressed his gratitude to be working with the legendary producer/writer/filmmaker Russell Davis.

The Sex Education star finds Davis’s writing to be “dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. An actor’s metaphorical playground.” He also said unlike the doctor who has two hearts, he has one heart and he’s going to put it into the show because he absolutely loves it.

Russell Davis, the writer and the showrunner, is equally enthusiastic about the casting decision. He even chimed in “The future is here and it’s Ncuti!” during the interview. “Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds, added Davis. To hear such incredible comments for the star from a world famous filmmaker just ascertained fans’ excitement.

Ncuti Gatwa was born in Rwanda, Africa and moved to Scotland with his family, following the Rwandan genocide. He grew up in Edinburgh and moved to Glasgow to study acting. His talent was picked up for the screen as soon he graduated in acting, and it took no time for him to get a BAFTA.
