After ‘Castlevania’, Adi Shankar Is All Set To Produce Another Anime Based on a Video Game, Here’s All You Need To Know About ‘Devil May Cry’ on Netflix

In recent times, the increase in the number of video games being converted into series and movies has been significant. From Castlevania to Netflix’s blockbuster The Witcher, all are based on or at least inspired by video games. After the success of Castlevania on Netflix, American filmmaker Adi Shankar has some plans in place for his next creation. Recently, Shankar also announced Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Now, Shankar plans to create an anime based on a video game series by the Capcom franchise, Devil May Cry, on Netflix. Here’s everything we know so far about the video game-based anime series.

Devil May Cry on Netflix

Despite the anime series still being in its initial stage, the creative behind Castlevania, Adi Shankar, has confirmed the release of Capcom’s video game Devil May Cry. Shankar revealed in an interview, “The season 1 scripts are done. They are rad. I could not be more excited.”  Previously, the filmmaker was also the showrunner for Castlevania on Netflix.

Similar to Castlevania, Devil May Cry is also based on a video game. The first season will have eight episodes and will follow a multiseason arc, which means the story will develop throughout different connected seasons. Interestingly, Shankar also revealed that Devil May Cry would join Castlevania in the bootleg multiverse.

Although no plot or storyline for the anime series has been revealed so far, the video game follows the story of a demon hunter Dante, who is half human and half demon. He protects humankind against the underworld’s various attempts to invade earth.

More about the series

Initially, the anime was announced back in 2018 when Shankar acquired the animation rights for Devil May Cry. However, the anime series is not a sequel and is unrelated to the 2007 DMC anime. As of now, Devil May Cry has not even entered production yet. So the filming is most likely to begin in early 2023. Shankar will work closely in collaboration with the production team at Capcom, the original creators of the game.

In the first season, alongside Dante, the series will star two other important characters: Lady, a talented demon slayer, and Vergil, Dante’s cold-blooded brother.

For now, there is no release date for the anime series. Till then, be sure to stream Castlevania on Netflix. Are you excited about Devil May Cry? Do let us know in the comments below.
