There are few classics that have remained evergreen, refusing to get lost in obscurity. Frank Shelley’s Frankenstein is one example of such a piece of literature that has remained popular ever since its publication in 1818. And now Guillermo del Toro is adding his name to the list of filmmakers who wish to bring the iconic monster to the screen. And if we are to go by the latest reports, it seems Andrew Garfield is on board to play the monster!

Andrew is on a roll lately. Bagging awards and nominations, as well as making a comeback as Spiderman! Who knows, this project might get him another set of accolades! According to Giant Freakin Bot, the Spiderman actor is going to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

Toro is developing the movie for Netflix. Joining the two is the Dune star Oscar Isaac. While this is Isaac’s first collaboration with the streamer, Garfield and Toro have previously worked with the streaming giant.

Andrew famously portrayed playwright Jonathan Larson in the musical tick, tick…BOOM! His exemplary performance as the anguished Rent playwright won him a Golden Globe. It was his performance in the movie that paved the way for his stellar comeback in Spiderman: No Way Home. The 39-year-old won another nomination for his turn as the conflicted Mormon detective in Under The Banner of Heaven. Although he could not take home any awards, he managed to make Amelia Dimondelberg’s heart flutter. The Social Network star is next to appear in Hot Air as a notorious billionaire, Richard Branson.

As for the Spanish filmmaker, he has already created two acclaimed projects, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Pinocchio for Netflix. While the former was an anthology featuring stories from various filmmakers, the latter was a stop-motion animation feature. Pinocchio was lauded for its stop-motion animation and even bagged an Oscar. Like Garfield, Toro is also busy adapting Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Buried Giant.

While the project is definitely something to look forward to, Toro is notorious for announcing projects and shelving them. Let’s hope his desire to make Frankenstein since 2014 does happen this time.
