Can Stray Kids Really Become the Next BTS? Comparing Net Worth, Careers, and Records of the A-List K-Pop Bands
At a time when the idea of K-pop in the Western realm was restricted to PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’, BTS waltzed in to make K-pop a worldwide sensation. While the transition was not as smooth as their chart topper ‘Butter’, they did prove that ‘Dynamite’ could break borders as well as records. But as we head towards the VMAs 2023 without the mention of the seven wonders, and instead a performance by Stray Kids netizens cannot help but wonder: Can Stray Kids become the next BTS?
Given that the VMA now comes with a separate category to cater to K-pop fans, the influence of the industry is quite undeniable. But leave a plant unwatered for too long and it withers over time. Therefore, K-pop fans are looking for Stray Kids to make as bombastic an impact as BTS.

The seven-membered band that redefined what it means to be an idol debuted in the era of spiked hair, kohl-filled eyes, side swept bangs. BTS debuted in 2013 and went on to make a name for themselves in an industry where it was often the subject of ridicule. Stray Kids, on the other hand, debuted in 2018 and belongs to the 4th generation of K-pop. Therefore, while Stray Kids only had to show up on the red carpet, BTS also had to roll it out for themselves.
This is clear as day as Stray Kids was announced among the first list of performers at the VMAs 2023, whereas BTS only booked the stage a year after they had already won their first VMA. While they may have found themselves on the same stage, their paths to the same have been vastly different. The tale of their net worths, however, is entirely different.
Which K-pop group among the two has the highest net worth?
Given how fan sentiment stands strong with both groups, a look at their new worth will provide a clear understanding of where the two K-pop groups stand. BTS, with its jugular grip and a global fanbase, has an estimated net worth of $120-$150 million. This three-digit net worth took the group several years to attain.
The group also boasts of several luxurious collaborations with Samsung and Louis Vuitton and even got its own speech at UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited. As for Stray Kids, the group is currently estimated to be worth around $17 Million. This is the total net worth of the group, with each member estimated to be worth around $1.5-5 Million.
However, with its member, Felix charming everyone and becoming the house ambassador of Louis Vuitton, the band is well on its way to its first hundred million.
Are BTS and Stray Kids friends?
The realm of K-pop, unlike that of music in the West, with its gazillion survival shows, makes it clear that the journey to the top is not a piece of cake. Notorious for its competitive nature, as BTS made waves globally and went on to get nominated at the Grammy Music Awards, netizens were shocked to realize that they were not the most awarded or popular K-pop group in their own country. This cut-throat environment does not allow for many friendships to brew. But despite the odds, BTS and Stray Kids have given fans many instances to rave about their camaraderie.
Being their juniors, a concept of much significance in South Korea’s tradition, Stray Kids are often seen admiring BTS. In fact, there are several recordings of the members getting teary-eyed while recounting their love for the boy band. The Grammy-nominated K-pop boy band has also returned the favor by praising Stray Kids. Although not as much as Ryan Reynolds. While the two groups may be friendly with each other, it does not stop fans from arguing if one can replace the other.

BTS may have debuted as a K-pop group of seven boys helmed by HYBE in 2013 but with each stage they buried with their passion and each record they broke with their dedication, BTS became a phenomenon. A depiction of where hard work paired with good intentions and talent can get you. This is clear as there is not even a hint of a crack in their relevance as they remain sensations despite being on a hiatus. Thus, by this meaning, there is no reason as to why Stray Kids cannot become the next BTS.
Moreover, BTS did not burn the midnight oil to gain global acclaim, only to be the last K-pop boy band to do so. Given how Stray Kids has only released four albums so far, it is too soon to say. However, with a fandom that includes Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds and chart-topper Troye Sivan, they are already heading in the right direction.
