Julia Garner Shares Her Subconscious Questionnaire With Ruth Langmore While Preparing for Ozark: “I know this sounds crazy”

Many have pointed out that Ruth Langmore is the best character in Ozark. And they were extremely upset that Ruth didn’t make it to the end. Fans have heaped praises on Ruth actor, Julia Garner for portraying such a badass character. The actress shared how had lost herself in the character while filming the series. 

Julia Garner talks about her character in Ozark

The actress confessed to removing herself entirely to become Ruth while meditating. She has gotten to know Ruth very intimately. She knew Ruth was afraid of dying and her end was near. Shortly after, showrunner Chris Mundy would call her to talk about her character’s narrative on the show’s finale. The barrier between her and Ruth blurred while filming. When Ruth lost her cousin, Wyatt, the actress was depressed for over a year. She couldn’t shake that feeling off.

For an actress who was this passionate about the role, it was “bittersweet” for her to say goodbye to the character. 

“It almost feels like a part of me has died in a way. She gave me a sense of confidence that I didn’t have before,” she said.

Ruth was already dead before Camilia shoots her

The last scene when Ruth gets shot was so real for Julia Garner, that she felt like she was “dying” for real. 

“I really do think Ruth died when Wyatt died. I think her body was just here. By the end of the season, she didn’t care about living. She did what she needed to do, she killed Javi, and after that mission, she was like a ghost,” she said.

“In the end, it’s not her going over to death, it’s death coming over to her,” she concluded.

As for Byrdes’ betrayal, she thinks they are simply deluding themselves into believing they can come out clean. However, Garner appreciates the series ending on a “high note,” although it’s hard for her to not compare the other sets to Ozark
