Alanis Morisette Performs an Orchestral Cover of Her Breakthrough Song You Oughta Know for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2

Alanis Morisette’s breakthrough track, You Oughta Know got a regency upgrade in Bridgerton season 2. We first heard the instrumental cover in episode 5 “An Unthinkable Fate”. Duomo & Tomás Peire-Serrate made the new arrangement, and while it was a spectacular rendition, it was stripped off of the lyrics. But now Netflix has released a clip featuring the Canadian music sensation belting out the lyrics backed by the musical duo Duomo and Kroma Strings. The musical piece beautifully conveys the tension and the tantalizing chemistry between the two leads, Kate and Anthony. For lack of better words, the performance is just as extraordinary as the sweeping romance in the drama.

Duomo & Tomás Peire-Serrate chose You Oughta Know from Alanis’ Jagged Little Pill for season 2 of Bridgerton

Although it’s a historical romantic drama, the music used in the series is all modern pop songs. The musical duo worked on the orchestral version of these modern songs to fit the Regency era. So it was no surprise that they picked You Oughta Know from Alanis’ 1995 hit album Jagged Little Pill for Bridgerton season 2. The song is an edgy confessional song that swept the charts upon its release. Fans liked the edgy tone which was a nice change from her earlier pop music. It’s a song about a scorned woman in love. Alanis wrote the piece with Glen Ballard.

Dave Navarro and Flea, the bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, worked as guitarists on the track.

Besides this track, the Regency-era drama added that orchestral twist to many other pop songs like Pink’s What About Us, Harry Styles’ Sign of the Times, Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball, and many more.
