Winona Ryder Shares The Lesser-Known Story About Her Birth And Why She Was Called a “Shoe-Lace Baby”

How well do you know Winona Ryder?

Well, don’t we all have our very own strange stories to tell? Seems like Winona has hers too. She was a premature baby and is named after the place where she was born.

When asked where was she born, Ryder said she was born ina farmhouse in Winona, Minnesota,” hence the name. She further explained, “I was what they called a shoe-lace baby.” Apparently, in the ‘70s, when babies were born earlier than expected, they boiled a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord. “That’s some trivia. Not a lot of people know about it,” she said to Bazaar.

Interestingly, our super savage mommy shares her birthday with Fanny Bryce and Kate Jackson (October 29th, 1971). Moreover, when asked about her career goals as a child, she said, “I think I wanted to be a writer because my parents are writers.” She believes her parents are incredible at their job and she wanted to be like them. Not as a writer, but she is indeed living her dream as a prosperous actress.

She is also a bibliophile and has learned to skateboard; Pretty amazing, right? Furthermore, she was also nominated for the Grammys for reading the book Anne Frank. “I was sure I was gonna win, I thought I was a shoo-in,” explains Ryder. She, unfortunately, lost to Patrick Stewart reading ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’
