Who Are the New Cast and Characters in the Last Kingdom Season 5? Where Have You Seen Them Before?

The action-adventure saga, The Last Kingdom is returning on March 9 with its penultimate season with a new set of characters! These new characters and their storylines have gotten us all intrigued. Before season 5 drops on Netflix, let us give you an introduction to these new characters. And one more thing-their names don’t get any easier to pronounce! 

Who are the new cast members in The Last Kingdom season 5?

Phia Saban as Aelfwynn

Aethelflaed and the late Aethelred of Mercia’s daughter will appear as rebellious teenagers in the new season. Aelfwynn is not too happy with the restrictions that come with being a royal. 

Patrick Robinson as Father Benedict

Father Benedict is a Christian priest who comes to Rumcofa to preach Christianity to the pagans. He has gambling debts and a haunting past. The actor made a name for himself after starring in Casualty and Sitting in Limbo. 

Ryan Quarmby as Cynlaef

Cynlaef will play Aelfwynn’s love interest in season 5 of The Last Kingdom. He is a close confidant of Aethelstan in Rumcofa. Moreover, he is training as a warrior.

Micki Scott as Rognvaldr

The upcoming season brings back a dead character, Rognvaldr. The ale-loving, womanizer returns as a changed man. Upon his return, he promises his brother, Sigtryggr that he has changed his ways. 

Ewan Horrocks as Aelfweard

King Edward and Aelflaed’s son, Aelfweard wants his father’s love and affection but he gets none. Meanwhile, his grandfather is scheming to have him named as Edward’s successor. The actor has acted in Domina before.

Harry Gilby as Aethelstan

Aethelstan is King Edward’s firstborn son. He trained and grew up in Uhtred’s care in the town of Rumcofa. The young prince has been training to become the next one in line for the throne. His acting credits include Tolkien.

Harry Anton as Bresal

Bresal will team up with Lord Aethelhelm to plot Aelfweard’s rise to the throne. He works for the scheming Lord in exchange for silver. 

Bamshad Abedi-Amin as Yahya

Whitgar met Yahya when he was traveling. He acts as a warrior and an advisor in Bebbanburg. The actor has previously appeared in Inside No.9, My Mad Fat Diary and Strike Black.

Sonya Cassidy as Eadgifu

This season’s cast has too many familiar faces. Sonya starred in Humans, The Woman in White, Vera and The Paradise. Eadgifu, a Kentish woman, arrives in Winchester to sort out a land dispute. But she stays longer than she intended at the court of King Edward’s. 

Emili Ackchina as Vibeke

Vibeke, Brida’s daughter, has visions and magical powers.

Additionally, Rob Hallett, Ross Anderson, Klara Tolnai, Ilona Chevakova, and Jaakko Ohtonen will also join the above-mentioned actors.
