Loved Outlander? Here Are Similar Shows to Binge
Outlander is an amazing show with a great cast and compelling story. Its newest sixth season is currently streaming exclusively on Starz, with the first episode released on March 6th. If you do not have a Starz, you are likely waiting for the show to land on Netflix. Meanwhile, you can watch the following shows to quench your thirst for some historical, time-traveling drama.

Black Sails is a prologue to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Wealth Island. It follows Captain Flint and his pirate crew as they struggle for survival and seek treasure on New Providence Island during the 18th century’s Golden Age of Piracy. Anyone who appreciates Outlander’s action sequences and complicated stories will enjoy this program. It is available on Hulu for streaming.
VICTORIA
The series addresses royal family dysfunction while chronicling Queen Victoria’s (Coleman) reign, which begins when she is just 18 years old. The romantic relationship between Victoria and Albert and their vacation to Scotland will make you think of Claire and Jamie. (It’s also worth mentioning that Nell Hudson, a.k.a. Laoghaire, appears in the series as Mrs. Skerrett, the queen’s devoted maid.) All three seasons of the show are currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
Poldark
Poldark, a British import that aired on PBS Masterpiece for five seasons, is now streaming on Amazon Prime for the first four seasons. Ross Poldark, a British army captain, returns home from battling those pesky colonial Americans to find his first love has married his cousin, but he finds consolation in the embraces of his new scullery maid, Demelza, at the opening of the series. With a competent (and good-looking) male protagonist, strong onscreen chemistry, and a similar 18th-century setting, this drama is a strong contender as an Outlander substitute.
CATHERINE THE GREAT
This four-part drama, set in the 18th century (the same time period as Claire’s journey), covers Catherine the Great’s (Mirren) rule in Russia, with a focus on her last years. Fans of Outlander will love her passionate relationship with military commander Grigory Potemkin (Clarke), which causes some controversy. All four parts of the show are on Hulu.
