“Tiger King” first premiered in 2020, and hooked us to the unknown lifestyle of big cat breeders. And if there is one thing that we have learned over the past year is, no big cat enthusiast is just your average Joe. While “Tiger King” exclusively focused on Joe Exotic and his encounters with fellow zoo owner Carole Baskin, we got a glimpse of who Doc Antle was in the “Tiger King”.

Just after the release of the second season of “Tiger King” on Netflix, we got a free ticket to another zoo. This time Tiger King takes us to visit Doc Antle’s Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina. But what exactly is Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story?

What is the documentary about?

Even a mixed response to season 2 of Tiger King never brought Netflix’s morale down. After the story of Joe “Exotic” Passage, we got a deep dive into the life of Bhagavan “Doc” Antle. Unlike Joe’s docuseries, this was more about looking into the life and deeds of Doc Antle’s crime as a host of witnesses narrated their experiences.

The connection of Doc Antle to Swami Satchidananda is also rather interesting to look at. Antle idolized this guru from India, and he wanted to have a similar community for himself, where people just blindly devoted themselves to him. Which is rather too creepy to even think about. He even made his zoo just a few miles away from Yogaville, which was Satchidananda’s establishment.

Victims have leveled some heavy allegations against Doc Antle, ranging from sexual crimes to crimes against animals. Doc Antle has denied every allegation, but it gets a better chance at reaching a conclusion after we finished the series. The three-episode docuseries is now streaming on Netflix. It takes us a step closer to understanding who Mahamayavi Bhagavan Antle was.

The crew behind the camera

Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaikin have documented the entire journey featuring Doc Antle. These are the same people who were behind both the seasons of “Tiger King”. However, they have their own troubles, as Carole Baskin has sued Netflix for using her footage without her permission in season 2.
