Here’s what the actors in the series think about the highly-anticipated Stranger Things season 4.

Fans are wondering what to expect from the next season of Stranger Things season 4 with each day getting us closer to its release. Fortunately, the actors do not leave us alone while waiting for it. Many of them share their opinions about the new season on various platforms. Here are some of the interviews the stars have been in so far, and what to expect from Stranger Things season 4 according to them.

David Harbour spoke on the scale and his personal thoughts of Stranger Things season 4. In addition to that, he shared his opinion about his character Hopper in season 4.

“I mean, it’s bigger, that’s the first thing. In scope, in scale, even in the idea that we’re not in Hawkins anymore. We, locale-wise, we’re bigger,” he said. “We’re introducing new stuff, but we’re also tightening and wrapping up in a certain direction to make it have a clear, clean specific, and definite ending at some point, which I can’t really talk about.”

“I can talk about Hopper. I guess I say this about a lot of seasons, but it’s my favorite season, in the sense that he’s at his purest, he’s at his most vulnerable, in a sense. He’s been, as we’ve seen, he’s in this Russian prison, so we get to reinvent him in a sense,” the actor said. “He gets to have a rebirth from what he had become, and we’d always sort of planned this almost resurrection of you have Gandalf dies, Gandalf the Grey re-emerge, and I’m really interested in this resurgence of him.”

“We get to explore a lot of threads in his life that have merely been hinted at that we get to see a lot more of,” he said. “And there are some real surprises that you know nothing about that will start to come out in this and play big as the series goes on.”

According to Harbour, the writers did a great job on the new season.

“The scripts always get better and these guys, they started out, and Season One is so tight and good and intimate in a certain way, it’s so good. And these guys go in different directions, of which the fans have multiple takes on, but I will say, the writing continues to be of its particular, specific genre, whatever they’re doing each season is just extraordinary.” However, the Duffer Brothers haven’t reached their ceiling yet. “And this, again, we top it. Like I feel it’s a big, beautiful season. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Our beloved Mike thinks that the new season is going to be the darkest one in the series.

“Every season gets darker. I will say that with season three I was like, ‘This is the darkest season that there’ll ever be’, exploding rats and everything. But really, season four so far… it’s the darkest season that’s ever been made. Every year it gets amped-up; every year it gets funnier, darker, and also sadder. So I’m really excited for people to see it. I’m so excited for people to see it. It’s been a long go at it.”

Gaten Matarazzo agrees with Finn Wolfhard on that particular topic, too. Stranger Things’ Dustin thinks that they were really “going for it this year!”

Sadie Sink, who joined the cast later in the series, is sure a fan-favorite actor with her character Max. She recently spoke about the new season as well, saying that each season is bigger than the previous one, with the latest being the best so far.

“So we started filming Season 4, I don’t even know when it was, but it was before the pandemic and then we got like a month of filming done, then we had to stop for I guess seven or eight months, and then we came back to work and things were completely different. So I think the real challenging part was just adjusting to the new rules and the regulations that were in place on set. That was a big adjustment. But yeah, I think we were all just so grateful to be able to work. And we’ve been working for a while now and creating something really amazing.”

“The scale of the show just gets bigger and bigger each year so yeah, it’s just been really incredible to see where they’re going with the storyline. It’s really amazing this year. And just how the stakes are just so much higher. Higher than they’ve ever been.”

As Gaten Matarazzo revealed, the writing crew usually had to work on crunch time in the previous seasons. This season, on the other hand, has been easier for them, so the scripts will be better.

“The goal was never to film before the show was finished being written, that’s just how it ended up happening the first three seasons.

We have a certain number of episodes, around five or six out of eight or nine is usually what we’ll start filming with once those are written. And the goal is (The Duffer Brothers) will direct and write at home.

They’ll be home and that’s when they’ll write and manage their workload that way, and how it’s always worked out is we’re on like episode 4 or 5 and we haven’t seen episodes 6 and 7 yet, and we have no idea what’s gonna happen and they haven’t written all of it yet.

So the pressure is usually on and when that happens, usually there’s like a 2-3 week hiatus where we’ll go home and take a break and during that 2-3 weeks Matt and Ross are home and they are writing. Like non-stop, panic-writing.”

After that, he explained how this year was going to be different.

“This year, because of COVID, there’s no excuse for them not to have the (season) written completely.

When we went in for our first table read which was February of 2020 we expected to go right into filming and it was gonna be the same situation, they were gonna start with episodes all the way up through 5 and we were probably gonna do the same hiatus, but COVID hit and we only had like six episodes and so they were like, ‘we might as well finish.’”

According to Maya Hawke, who plays Robin in Stranger Things, the wait for season 4 will not be in vain. She thinks all the time they spent gave the crew a chance to give us a great job. We’ll see whether it’s true after the release.

“It feels that way to me, too. I’m not allowed to tell you when we finish filming, but I can tell you that like, though it’s been forever, because we’ve had so much time, the level of effort, interest, and the detail that Duffer Brothers have had time to put into these scripts, and that the actors have had the time to think about their characters, and like it’s going to be awesome.”

“I’m so proud of the work that everyone is doing. And I can’t wait for people to see the season. It’s been a long way but I think it will be worth it.”

We don’t have an interview or an official announcement about the release date yet. And we know all those high expectations left you wondering about when we can watch the new season.

Well, they’re planning to finish filming the season in August. When we add the post-production process to that, we can expect an early-mid 2022 release date for Stranger Things season 4. However, we still have to wait for an official announcement.
