One Of Us Is Lying on Netflix: Synopsis and Trailer

The story is based on the wildly popular young adult novel by Karen M. McManus, One Of Us Is Lying. And following many novel adaption trends, there was no doubt that one day this teen drama will also be playing on our screens. It follows a brain, an athlete, a criminal, a princess, and a basket case walk into detention-but only four come out alive.

Apparently, the four students now become suspects of this mysterious Bayview high death, or should we rather say murder? And the victim is the high school’s popular gossip boy, Simon. Although the boy had a golden heart, he was a target of many. Of course, who would like their darkest secrets to get revealed on a gossip app? And during the detention, he drinks some soup that causes a deathly allergy in his system, and the police declare it was no accident! Will they be able to unfold this dark mystery? You can only find it out on Netflix.

The story deftly tweaks its balance of suspicions to keep things interesting, and the cast has just done a solid job. But who’s in the cast?

Who are the convicts and victim(s) in this teen drama?

In this classic whodunit, everybody is suspect, and nobody is talking; Mark McKenna plays the ill-fated student Simon and, trust us, he has really pulled the show. Apart from him, Cooper van Grootle has also done a fantastic job. He plays Nate, charged with drug dealing and dealing with a chequered past. The entire cast, which altogether has made the show binge-worthy is:

  • Annalisa Cochrane as Addy, the popular cheerleader
  • Chibuikem Uche as Cooper, a baseball pitcher with a promising career
  • Marianly Tejada as Bronwyn, an overachiever
  • Barrett Carnahan as Jake, Addy’s boyfriend
  • Jessica McLeod as Janae, Simon’s best friend
  • Melissa Collazo as Maeve, Bronwyn’s younger sister
  • Jacque Drew as Detective Wheeler
  • George Ferrier as TJ Forrester, Jake’s best friend who has a crush on Addy
  • Martin Bobb-Semple as Evan, Bronwyn’s boyfriend
  • Karim Diane as Kris, Cooper’s secret boyfriend
  • Miles J. Harvey as Lucas, Cooper’s younger brother
  • Zenia Marshall as Keely, Cooper’s girlfriend
  • Sara Thompson as Vanessa, Addy’s best friend and TJ’s girlfriend
  • Alimi Ballard as Kevin Clay, Cooper’s father and coach
  • Andi Crown as Ms. Avery, an AP Physics teacher at Bayview High

One Of Us Is Lying: Reviews and Reactions

The 8 episode series has bagged quiet positive reviews from the critics.

“For all the splashy intrigue suggested by that premise, One of Us Is Lying‘s secret weapon is a more subtle one. Showrunner Darío Madrona (Elite) has a confident grasp on the murder mystery’s pacing, doling out twists and clues at a steady enough clip to keep a viewer’s attention from ever wandering too far — but slowly enough that each new reveal has time to sink in.”  Writes The Hollywood Reporter

Further, Forbes reports, “It’s easy to cruise through episode after episode—the show deftly weaves storylines, introduces new questions as fast as it answers old ones, and showcases an appealing cast.”

FilmyHype also tweeted saying it is a fun to watch teen drama.

Notably, One Of Us Is Lying on Netflix got 89% by the Tomatoers and 6.9/10 on IMDb
