Netflix’s big-budget series The Sandman has revealed the cast! The new series is confirmed to arrive at some point in the latter half of 2021. We have mentioned the series in another article, if you already haven’t read it we recommend you to!

“The Sandman” is a stark visual exploration of an uncanny world. Based on the classic 19th-century tale by German writer/composer E.T.A. Hoffmann, the film investigates the tale’s themes of obsession and madness, emphasizing expressionist imagery and theatrical style. This story relates to the life of the young student Nathanael, whose childhood memories are haunted by a sinister old man.

As a child, Nathanael believed this dark figure to be the mythic Sandman, who puts children to sleep by stealing their eyes. When confronted by this same evil presence as an adult, he is pushed toward madness as he tries to confront his childhood fears. Meanwhile, Nathanael finds distraction in a beautiful and glassy-eyed woman named Olympia who he spies on from his window. After dancing with her at a wild party he begins courting her, but his happiness is ill-fated. Nathanael discovers that Olympia is an automaton – a machine made of wood and clockwork – with her glassy eyes created by the terrible Sandman.”

At the DC Fandome event Neil Gaiman, the comic book series writer of ‘The Sandman’, confirmed that the story won’t start in the 1980s instead it will start in the modern day for the Netflix series.

Who are the cast members of ‘The Sandman’?

Tom Sturridge will be playing the main character of the series, in the role of Dream who is described simply as the “Lord of the Dreaming”.

Gwendoline Christie is in the role of the ruler of hell, Lucifer.

Lucifer is not the only character from the comics getting a gender swap in The Sandman. The character described as “chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm” is played be Vivienne Acheampong.

The Corinthian is a nightmare that Dream created “who wishes to taste all that the world has in store” and is played by Boyd Holbrook.

Known as a  blackmailer and a magician, Roderick Burgess is most known for capturing Dream in the comics and is played by Charles Dance.

Abel serves as a duo in the series with being loyal to Dream within the dream realm. Abel is played by Asim Chaudhry.

Sanjeev Bhaskar will play Cain, the brother to Abel.
