Netflix has faced a lot of turbulence in terms of subscriptions and viewers lately. However, the year 2022 saw the return of the water cooler moments with buzzing charting rates and recording breaking streams. From noteworthy thriller whodunnit movies to cult shows like Stranger Things, fans were enraptured by the revival of their favorites. Adding much to the enthusiasm, the twisted spinoff of the 90s iconic Addams Family Wednesday landed on the platform.

This remarkable coming-of-age comedy created by Tim Burton brought us the teen version of Addams’ nihilistic daughter for the first time. The incarnation of this stormy cloud played by Jenna Ortega turned out to be the best decision. Her pigtail braids, high-necked collar, and surly vibe instantly won the heart of viewers. And now she is ready to come back once again, but fans don’t seem as rejoiced as they were before.

Fans having a bittersweet moment as Wednesday gets renewed and 1899 dumped

Dropping the biggest bomb in the first week of 2023, Netflix announced the return of blockbuster success Wednesday. The news came through a video where Jenna Ortega aka Wednesday thanked fans for all the love. While she also promised to continue the torturous journey with more misery and bloodshed in Season 2.

Moreover, the showrunners also expressed their excitement for season 2 after seeing the enormous praise they received for the show. “We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore,” Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Tudum.

Even though the show has garnered great fandom and people are happy for the renewal, they couldn’t neglect the fact that the German period mystery 1899 got dumped just days before Wednesday’s renewal. Since the sci-fi drama was an instant success and amassed 79.27 million hours viewed within three days of release, fans are asking Netflix to change their decision and there are about 35000 petitioners who signed the petition to bring back the show.

Meanwhile, it seems that the plans of the streaming giant have failed who first gave the bad news about 1899 and later announced season 2 of Wednesday. Fans not backing down so soon tells the ongoing battle on Twitter.

One fan said: “netflix renewing wednesday but not 1899, i’m in your goddamn walls.”

“The premiere of Wednesday overshadowed the premiere of 1899. We cannot now let the decision and publicity of season 2 of Wednesday overshadow the fight for the renewal of 1899! #save1899 #renew1899,” posted second fan.

Another added: I blame “Wednesday” for “1899” even though I enjoyed the show. Do you know how long I waited for something like “dark” to come out???”
