Building on that premise, here are 7 top Netflix Originals ranked based on their soundtrack!

7. To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Teen rom-coms often get a lot of hate and backlash due to their unrealistic storylines and bland plots. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before came as a breath of fresh air and completely wowed the audience. The sweet and warm narrative leveled up owing to the excellent soundtrack.

The trilogy comprises a lot of songs, but the majority of them are from the 80s or 80s-inspired, along with some K-Pop and indie selections. With ‘Sixteen Candles being a significant reference in the movie, the score has a very John Hughes vibe to it. A few signature songs like ‘I Like Me Betterby Lauv and ‘Beginning Middle End’ by Leah Nobel and Quinn Redmond appear in the trilogy multiple times. These songs are now synonymous with this movie franchise.

6. Never Have I Ever

A classic high-school teen drama enhanced by fresh, off-beat writing and a desi twist. What’s not to like in Never Have I Ever? The heart-warming storyline, directed by Linda Mendoza and written by Mindy Kaling, also has an excellent soundtrack.

The 80’s style of synth-pop and foot-tapping beats set the right mood and are sure to transport you into a dream world. ‘Dancing on my ownby Swedish artist Robyn results in protagonist Devi’s miraculous recovery perhaps Paxton’s (Darren Barnett) abs helped too! Moreover, the song, ‘Heat Waves’ by Glass Animals spectacularly encapsulates Paxton climbing through Devi’s window and their spectacular kiss after. Moreover, ‘Beautiful Day’ by U2 and three Bollywood songs also feature in the high-school dramedy.

5. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Sabrina Spellman’s (Kiernan Shipka) life feels so exhausting to a viewer. She has to find the balance between her human and witch life, handle the succubitches, and attend high school. All this while being a hormonal teenager. Perhaps the oh-so captivating and spooky background score gives her the strength.

Featuring an awesome cover of the classic, ‘I put a Spell on You’ by Sylvia Gordon, the show also gives an homage to the early rock n roll. ‘Hurdy Gurdy Man’ by Donovan, ‘Bad Moon Rising’ by Creedence Clearwater, ‘Strange Magic’ by Electric Light Orchestra, and many more. These vintage tunes with a contemporary twist give the show a unique character.

4. Sex Education

Ah, the 80s! What a ground-breaking decade for music! The pop tracks especially complement any teen rom-com. So why should the quirky yet heartbreakingly relatable episodes of Sex Education not embrace them?

A wide variety of 80s chartbusters grace the screen on this Netflix Original. From Billy Idol, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, a-Ha, Talking Heads, The Smiths, and so many more. And one simply cannot miss mentioning ‘Seventeen’ by Sharon Van Etten. It ties Aimee Gibbs’ (Aimee Lou wood) heartbreaking yet powerful journey beautifully. Ezra Furman’s ‘Love you so bad also features in the show and is an absolute earworm.

3. Russian Doll

Watching someone’s 36th birthday party again and again could be a real drag. But Russian Doll’s Nadia (Natasha Lyonne), stuck in a surreal time loop along with her conflicted morality, is just mind-blowing cinema.

Add to that some psychedelia from the 60s, French Pop by Jacqueline Taïeb, and synth-pop by Light Asylum, and you’ve got a winner! ‘Alone Again Or’, a 1967 track by Love, beautifully ties the show’s final seconds. Each reset to the start of the birthday party is characterized by ‘Gotta Get Up’ by Harry Nilsson. In an interview with The New York Times, Natasha said that the song has a “buoyant doomsday quality“.

2. The Queen’s Gambit

A compelling narrative, exquisite lighting, and Chess. The Queen’s Gambit is nothing short of a picture-perfect period drama. The alluring series only gets better with its costumes and the finishing touch of 60s swing music.

The scenes with the chess matches wouldn’t nearly be as captivating without Carlos Rivera’s dramatic original score. The rest of the show, however, is a major throwback to the 60s with hits like ‘Along Comes Mary’ by The Association, ‘Tut Tut Tut Tut’ by Gillian Hills, and of course, ‘Fever’ by Peggy Lee. Moreover, who can miss the speed chess scene set against ‘Yeh, Yeh’ by Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames?
