“A Bit Supernatural” – Joseph Quinn Opens Up on How Eddie Munson Could Return in Stranger Things Season 5
Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 graced Netflix on Friday. Over the weekend, many fans will have tuned into the show and had their hearts broken over the fate of two beloved characters. Vecna’s actions saw Max Mayfield’s limbs snap, her eyes bleed, and her heart stop for over a minute. While Eleven piggybacked and saved her, she wasn’t able to save Eddie Munson.
The Hellfire Club leader and an astoundingly good guitar player met his demise after “he didn’t run.” Munson faced the Demobats head-on with a spear and shield and held his own before getting overwhelmed. That means his character is done and dusted, but there are still ways for him to be part of Stranger Things Season 5.
In an exclusive chat with RadioTimes.com, Joseph Quinn provided his take on a potential return. He said, “Me and Joe Keery (Steve Harrington) were discussing ways in which I could kind of…maybe I’d be like a figment of Gaten’s imagination or something. Like if there could be some kind of room for something like that, something a bit supernatural”

This could be an ideal scenario, as Dustin saw his friend Eddie Munson’s brave sacrifice from up close and would have been the worst affected of the lot. While Quinn is keen to return, he also seems to have made peace with the fact that he went out on a high after his Upside Down concert.
Joseph Quinn praised Eddie Munson’s character arc in Stranger Things Season 4
Eddie Munson came in, delighted the audiences, departed, and made a tremendous impact in his short time on Stranger Things. He had a great beginning, middle, and end.
Quinn said, “As an actor you want characters with those kinds of arcs. So whilst it would have been great to come back for another season and get together with all those lovely people again, I think it was a brilliantly realised ending for a brilliantly written character.”
Any potential return could be in the form of a special appearance. This has been the norm for characters from the past, such as Billy Hargrove. Well, Dr. Brenner returned after supposedly meeting his end at the hands of a Demodog; but audiences didn’t see his corpse in Season 1. Munson did die and audiences saw his body, but it remained within the Upside Down at Vecna’s mercy.

001’s body burned, and he fell from the attic of the Upside Down Creel House. However, as his corpse wasn’t visible to Steve/Nancy/Robin, there are two possibilities. A. He just retreated. B. He lost his body and had to latch onto another vessel.
If we are looking at B, Eddie Munson’s body was an option as it remained within the Upside Down itself. As Mr. Munson didn’t receive it in the epilogue of ‘The Piggyback’, Dustin certainly didn’t bring it back. This leaves the door open to the possibility of Vecna using Munson’s corpse as a vessel.

Should this happen, it will have ‘Eddie Munson’ in the final season. However, the “brilliantly realised ending” for a brilliantly written character will go down the drain.
Most fans may not want to see this and would remain content with his supernatural form being a figment of Dustin’s imagination. They may not even want to see him return for the sake of it. What do you make of Joseph Quinn’s take on a potential return and his character arc in Stranger Things? Let us know.
