The famous crime thriller, Ozark’s latest season premiered this month. The latest season proved to be quite intriguing for the viewers. Season 4 part 1 started with an unexpected flash-forward of a car crash. However, they didn’t reveal the events leading to the car crash in the 7 episodes of the first part. Furthermore, this wasn’t the only scene that left the show’s fans wondering, why did this happen?

One of the characters that turned out to play a crucial role in the series: Ruth, played by Julia Garner. A sequence involving her buying a goat cookie jar and crying over it has left some fans in a sense of bewilderment. Furthermore, the saleswoman strikes up a conversation by asking, “You don’t really think of goats and cookies together, do you?”- “My husband says it’s cause they are satanic goats,” she adds. She moves on to say a satirical comment, “I don’t even think the devil eats cookies, does he?”-“Maybe he does,” says the saleswoman.

In a later scene, we see Ruth crying abruptly, sitting in front of the jar in her trailer. Fans wondered about the reason behind her burst of emotions triggered by the jar. For the viewers who remember the events of the third season, this might be pretty easy to deduct.

Ben’s connection to the scene

In season 3, Wendy’s brother Ben was introduced to us. During the season, he gets attracted to Ruth Langmore and approaches her several times. Eventually, Ruth accepts Ben’s advancements. Significantly, they have powerful feelings for each other and share a strong bond. However, neither of them knew the longevity of their relationship.

The diner scene in season 3, Wendy and Ben exchange words for the last time. In the scene, Wendy asked him where he saw himself in five years. Ben responds with a heartfelt answer. He sees himself with a job, a car, married to Ruth, and living in a house that had goats. After the conversation, Wendy shows appreciation for Ben’s thoughts and leaves the diner sobbing as she had ordered to get him assassinated based on his erratic behavior and him being a potential threat to the family’s operations.

The latest season shows us that Ruth acquires Ben’s ashes from Jonah Byrde, as he knew that his mother ordered the hit on Ben. Placing all the pieces of the puzzle together, we understand that Ruth might dawn a tough face in season 4, but deep down, she is still shattered about Ben’s loss. The cookie jar in the shape of a goat reminded her of his fondness towards the creature. As a result, the goat cookie jar is filled with Ben’s ashes to honor him.
