Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out of their royal base in the United Kingdom, controversies around the titles have always been at an all-time high. Time and again, there have been demands of stripping the Duke and the Duchess of their titles by royal experts and correspondents. So were their children, Archie and Lilibet. Nonetheless, dishing the allegations in style, the youngest of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has put an end to it all.

As reported by Haper’s Bazaar, Buckingham Palace’s officials have finally updated the monarch titles of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children. Following years of speculation of whether the Sussex children will get to retain their titles or not, the confirmation can finally be seen on the official website of the UK Sovereign, Royal.uk. 

The outlet further reads that Archie, 3, and Lilibet had been officially entitled to their royal titles following the late Queen’s demise. For the first since the infamous Megxit, accurate sources have claimed the confirmation of titles for the ones in the line of succession to the throne from the Sussex family. It sources the confirmation from a Royal Letters Patent by King George V, which dates back to the year 1917. 

The Patent reads that “The children of any sovereign of the United Kingdom and the children of the sons of any such sovereign…shall have and at all times hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of prince or princess prefixed to their respective Christian names”. 

How did Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie retain their titles?

8th March 2023 marked the christening of the one-year-old Lilibet Diana, the youngest of the Sussex family. In a private ceremony consisting of exclusively close confidants of her parents, the archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev, John Taylor, christened Princess Lilibet Diana. Following the ceremony, Buckingham palace made no delay in confirming the titles of the estranged royal children as the sixth and seventh in line to the British throne, respectively. 

The controversies regarding the titles had rooted in Prince Harry’s decision to give up on his HRH designation upon the renunciation. Back then, a palace source had stated that “the use of the style HRH would come through their father”. And Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, was of course in abeyance.
