Will Smith has finally returned to what he does best and unsurprisingly, it isn’t giving an Oscar slap with the perfect pitch and echo. The actor’s first release ever since the chaotic fiasco earlier this year was thankfully an emotional, heart-wrenching drama about slavery that resonated with the masses and not some gray comedy.

Emancipation features a sullied Will Smith who gives his all to the story of real-life Gordon and ultimately his emancipation as a slave in Louisiana. Does Will Smith deserve a chance at the Oscars with Emancipation?

The historical action film has managed to pull the best out of Will Smith’s acting abilities. Despite the frames being void of any color but gray and black, Smith’s performance manages to shine through. Although the entire film is beautiful and you won’t find the actor giving anything less than phenomenal in every scene, the parts where he speaks Haitian Kreyol have absolutely won fans over.

The actor in a video explained how he used language and accent to add texture to his portrayal of Peter. But none of this could have been possible had it not been for Antoine Fuqua’s brilliant storytelling. After the release of the movie, many have said that it deserves an Oscar. But given the fact that Will Smith stars in it makes things a little difficult. The actor has been blocked by Oscar for ten years.

Ever since the embarrassing slap gate, the actor has taken the ‘spirituality’ and ‘reflection’ route to resurrection. The actor insisted again and again that the action was a result of pent-up trauma. But surprisingly, Smith has not been in the audience’s faces about it, even agreeing with those who did not want to see him on the screen. However, there is one thing that breaks his heart.

And it is to see the team suffer “I think that Antoine did probably the best work of his entire career, and the idea that they might be denied because of my actions really breaks my heart,” said Smith at the Deadline Contenders event. It is true that Fuqua, who has mostly been known for crime thrillers, really hit the ball out of the park with this one. And he really deserves all the awards he can get.
