Why Having Jaskier in ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Is Much Better Than Having Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia
Released in 2019, The Witcher owns the title of being one of the most popular television series on Netflix. Adapted by the novels of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, the American fantasy drama revolves around Geralt of Rivia. Portrayed by Henry Cavill, Geralt is a monster hunter who tried his best to adapt to a world where people are more wicked and dangerous than beasts. While The Witcher was a breakthrough series in the science fiction and fantasy genre, Netflix is preparing to stun the viewers once again with its prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Set in an elven world, The Witcher: Blood Origin will revolve around the origin of the very first Witcher. The television series will shed light on the Conjunction of the Spheres while also highlighting the Elven civilization. As the show will explore the events from 1,200 years before The Witcher, it will have a brand new cast. While all the main characters, including the likes of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, will be missing from the prequel, Jaskier will be gracing the audience with his presence. Jaskier’s role in The Witcher: Blood Origin
It makes total sense for the showrunners to have Jaskier portray an important role in The Witcher: Blood Origin. Jaskier is a traveling bard who narrates the adventures of Geralt through songs. Thus, the prequel will kick start with the bard narrating the story of the Conjunction of the Spheres.

In Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, it is Jaskier who tells the story of Geralt and Ciri to the readers through his songs. Therefore, the presence of the traveling bard in the upcoming series will honor the books and at the same time will also serve as a link between The Witcher and its prequel.
Moreover, it is much better to have Jaskier in the prequel than Geralt. The monster hunter is a strong character and he would have taken all the screen space in the new fantasy series. With the presence of Jaskier, the creators will be able to explore more about the interesting character as they mainly neglected him in The Witcher.
