Will Smith has been the representation of a hero not only through his filmography but also his personality. The actor skyrocketed to stardom backed by the numerous heroic roles that he played. Be it science fiction, comedy, or drama, if the poster had Will Smith on it, the audience always walked in with the expectation of either seeing him portray a hero or for the movie to offer some sort of wisdom. Even throughout his rapping career, Smith stuck to profanity-free lyrics. The founding bricks for him to become Hollywood’s good boy were laid a long time ago.

The Bad Boys actor, even in movies that seemed to be bending the laws every step of the way, still made it out with an intact moral compass. While these heroic roles have brought the actor unprecedented glory, much like most things, there was a flip side as well.

When you spend so many years in the limelight playing heroic characters, the audience expects you to be a version of all the heroes you have played, off-camera. At least, that was the case with Will Smith. The actor is fifty-four years old now and has shed a lot of the Will Smith that he used to be.

In his 2021 web series titled Best Shape of My Life, the actor looked back at his iconic characters, Agent J, Dr. Robert Neville, and Del Spooner, and how much he hates them now. Smith’s hatred for these characters stems from the weight he has gained, leading to lower self-esteem.

Not only does the actor look at these characters to motivate him further, but also loathes them because of the ease with which he looked so chiseled back then. Things are different now, with Smith growing not only in age but also in his pooch. The web series demonstrated Smith’s weight loss journey and encouraged people to move and live a healthy lifestyle.
