Truth has always been stranger than fiction. What has occurred in real life sometimes is so chilling that one refuses to believe that it could ever happen. However, with its sublime docuseries collections, Netflix always reminds us that even though we have come a long way since our inception more than 2000 years ago. There still have been moments in history that are as bizarre as things could get. The newest addition of Netflix to their horrific docuseries selection is Conversation with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes.

Conversation with a Killer: New docuseries on Netflix

Netflix is making a comeback in the true crime genre. The newest miniseries is on John Wayne Gacy, one of America’s most notorious serial murderers.

Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes examines previously unheard tapes featuring Gacy and his legal team to examine the aspiring politician and part-time clown’s many killings and the “horrifying darkness” within him.

This three-part series, directed by Joe Berlinger, the filmmaker behind Netflix documentaries such as Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, and Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, seeks to explain how Gacy managed to murder at least 33 people before getting caught.

Who was John Wayne Gacy?

Gacy was a secret homosexual who had married twice during the period he raped, tortured, and strangled his male victims before disposing of them in the crawl space beneath his home. He killed 33 people, out of which, police could indentify only 29. The remaining are unidentified to this day.

In 1980, Gacy was sentenced to death and was put to death by lethal injection in 1994. ‘Kiss my a**,’ he said last, unremorseful until the finish.

On Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, Netflix released Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes that unearths never-before-heard tapes from several prison interviews.

What’s in the trailer?

The trailer gives us a brief look into the extreme “cat and mouse” between John and the police. Netflix assures viewers that the new true crime docuseries will take a “fresh perspective on the narcissistic mindset of the murderer.”

The limited series will give audiences a deeper understanding of the killers’ psyche. Joe Berlinger (director of Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes) also directs this series. In the series, Joe interacts with key participants and includes never-before-seen interviews in quest of answers as to how Gacy eluded prosecution for so long.
