The movie tells an all-too-timely tale of cop corruption, militant protests, and the intersection between nationalism and personal duty. What is Athena on Netflix all about?
Netflix describes this upcoming piece as, “Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in unexplained circumstances, three siblings have their lives thrown into chaos.”

A French army frontline, Abdel, returns home to find his family in total chaos. Stuck in a dilemma between his younger brother’s revenge and his older brother’s crimes, he along with his family are completely torn apart. All hell breaks loose when their community, Athena is under the fire. Abdel tries his level best to pacify tense situations. Unfortunately, just when they thought it couldn’t get any worse, the family loses a member. One out of the four siblings succumbs to death in a pre-war breakout. The death ignites a full-scale war in the community of Athena with the boy’s elder brothers at the heart of it.
The movie stars Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Quassini Embarek, Anthony Bajon, and Alexis Maneti as its leading characters. Directed by Romain Gavras and produced by Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar, Jean Duhamel and Nicholas Lhermitte, this new movie will be an addition to the immersive Greek Tragedies Netflix harbors. In addition to that, the movie will have a runtime of 97 minutes and it’s expected to be worth it. As per reports, the film premiers at the 2022 Venice Film Festival on September 2. Following this, it’ll release on the 23rd of September.
